As the year winds down, former US President Barack Obama continues his tradition of unveiling his favorite cultural picks, including his much-anticipated music playlist. 

For 2024, the list is a mix of chart-toppers, emerging talent and genre-spanning tracks.

At the top of his list is Kendrick Lamar’s dynamic “Squabble Up,” followed by Billie Eilish’s introspective “Lunch.” Beyoncé’s bold anthem “Texas Hold ’Em” and Shaboozey’s lively “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” also make appearances, with the latter securing the No. 2 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 year-end chart.

His selections also include tracks from artists such as Hozier, Leon Bridges and Tyla, further emphasizing his diverse musical preferences.

Other notable selections include Karol G’s “Si Antes Te Hubiera Conocido,” Tommy Richman’s “Million Dollar Baby” and Bonny Light Horseman’s “Old Dutch.” 

The playlist also features global sounds like Rema’s “Yayo” and Central Cee and Lil Baby’s collaborative hit “Band4band.”

This annual reveal, alongside his favorite books and movies, has become a beloved tradition for fans eager to see what’s been on the former president’s radar.

Meanwhile, Obama narrowed down his favorite movies of 2024 to a concise list of 10, which included “All We Imagine as Light,” “Conclave, The Piano Lesson,” “The Promised Land” and The Seed of the Sacred Fig,” among others, alongside his favorite books, such as Jonathan Haidt’s “The Anxious Generation” and “Sally Rooney’s Intermezzo.” 

He encouraged support for independent bookstores and libraries.

“I always look forward to sharing my annual list of favorite books, movies, and music. Today I’ll start by sharing some of the books that have stuck with me long after I finished reading them,” he wrote.
