MANILA, Philippines — Two weather systems will bring cloudy skies and rain showers to parts of Northern and Central Luzon on Saturday, according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).“Dahil po sa epekto nitong shear line, pati na rin po nitong hanging amihan na nakakaapekto sa extreme Northern Luzon ay asahan po natin yung makulimlim na panahon sa malaking bahagi po ng Northern at Central Luzon ngayong araw,” Pagasa weather specialist Rhea Torres said in a morning weather update.

(Due to the effects of the shear line, as well as the northeast monsoon affecting extreme northern Luzon, overcast skies are expected in most parts of Northern and Central Luzon today.)

According to Torres, the shear line will bring cloudy skies, scattered rain showers and isolated thunderstorms to Central Luzon, Ilocos region, Cordillera Administrative Region, and parts of Cagayan Valley except Batanes.

“Asahan po natin ‘yung makulimlim na panahon at may mga posibilidad din po ‘yan ng mga moderate to at times  katamtaman hanggang sa paminsang-minsang malalakas na mga pag-ulan dulot naman ng epekto nitong shear line,” she explained.

(Expect overcast skies with possible moderate to at times heavy rainfall due to the shear line.)

Meanwhile, Batanes will see cloudy skies with rains on Saturday due to the northeast monsoon or “amihan.”

“Asahan po natin dito sa may Batanes ang light to moderate na mga pag-ulan dulot po ng epekto ng northeast monsoon o hanging amihan,” Torres said.

(Light to moderate rains are expected in Batanes due to the effects of the northeast monsoon or amihan.)

The shear line is the area where warm easterlies and cold northeast monsoon meet, Pagasa said.

Metro Manila forecast

Torres added that fair weather is expected in Metro Manila and the rest of the country, except for brief or sudden light rains which may be caused by localized thunderstorms.

“So generally fair weather conditions po tayo. Kung may mga pag-ulan man ay panandalian lamang o mga biglaan po na buhos ng ulan dulot po ng mga localized na thunderstorms,” she emphasized.

Pagasa hoisted a gale warning over the seaboards of Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Isabela, Ilocos Norte, and Ilocus Sur.

“Inaasahan po natin ‘yung napakaalong karagatan dyan po sa mga nasabing dagat-baybayin, So delikado pong pumalaot, especially po sa ating mga kababayan na mangingisda, pati na rin po ‘yung may mga malilit na sasakyang pandagat,” Torres warned,
