A group of Fil-Canadian carolers has brought holiday cheer to homes and businesses in La Ronge, Saskatchewan, while raising funds to support local charities and communities in the Philippines.
This was the remark of Kristalina Georgieva, who has just started her second five-year term as managing director of the International Monetary Fund (IMF), on Thursday, before the IMF and the World Bank’s annual gathering of financial leaders in Washington next week.
Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) Undersecretary for Integrated Sciences Carlos Primo David during a forum organized by the Chamber of Mines of the Philippines (COMP) said the DENR rolled out a digital application process in three regions of the country.
For the past few years, the La Ronge and District Filipino Canadian Community carolers have been serenading local residents in their homes. Starting this year, visits to local businesses have been included in their annual Christmas tradition.
The group’s repertoire includes all-time holiday favorites like “Silent Night” and “Joy to the World” and Tagalog Christmas songs showcasing Filipino culture and traditions.

Formed in 2018 at the house of group leader Sonny Montilla, the La Ronge and District Filipino-Canadian Community has a clear mission: to contribute to the improvement of La Ronge, Lac La Ronge Indian Band and Air Ronge while also extending help to communities in the Philippines.
Their latest campaign aims to bring this mission to life through Christmas caroling.
Montilla said Filipinos celebrate Christmas in a big way because of their strong Catholic faith.

“This makes the holiday deeply rooted in their culture, leading to a long festive season that starts as early as September, with a focus on family gatherings, special food and vibrant decorations like the iconic ‘parol’ star lanterns,” Montilla said.
The Fil-Canadian carolers have performed at several La Ronge businesses including KFC, Kostas and Boreal Colors, with more stops scheduled this week.

“Essentially, Christmas is a major event that brings the community together,” Montilla said.
The group’s yuletide celebration concludes with a grand Christmas party on Saturday, Dec. 21 at the Jonas Roberts Memorial Community Centre.
Attendees will be treated to the beloved elements of a Filipino Christmas tradition – a grand feast, exchange of gifts, dancing and karaoke.
